Stephen Archbold presents on The Weekend Warrior : DBA edition

On August 2nd, Stephen Archbold will present on “The Weekend Warrior :  DBA Edition” to the SQL Server Ireland User Group.

This talk is aimed at giving System Administrators who find themselves babysitting SQL servers a fighting chance of getting a good nights sleep. We cover the basics of how to cover yourself with backups, how the maintenance plan wizard is your Swiss army knife, how to deploy a SQL server in the best way (Anyone with a user database on the C: drive has to drop and give me 20), the SQL Agent and why it’s important, and an introduction to high availability. This talk will be 50% presentation and 50% live demonstrations.
Topics covered are:
New Install
The Maintenance plan Wizard
Backups/Restores
Index Maintenance
SQL Profiler
SQL Agent
High Availability

Stephen Archbold is a Sys Admin/DBA for 5+ years, and a full time DBA for 5 years now. He is an MCITP in both Database Administration and Database and MCITP in Designing Database Solutions/Developer (MCITP 70-450 and 70-451). He is currently the Lead DBA of a Multi National financial transactions company, operating across 3 sites in the UK and Ireland. He has felt the pain of the transition from Sys Admin to DBA, and now he wants to give back a little bit!

His own technical blog is at http://simplesql.blogspot.com .

This event will be held on the Ground Floor, Microsoft Atrium Building Block B, Carmenhall Road, Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin 18 (close to the Sandyford Luas stop). Limited underground parking is available at the back of the building
